MYANMAR EARTHQUAKE APPEAL

On Friday 28 March, a powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Myanmar, sending strong tremors across neighbouring countries including Thailand, India, Laos, Bangladesh and China.

Many of us have watched in horror as tragically, more than 2,700 people in Myanmar have lost their lives with many more injured or remaining trapped under the rubble.

Myanmar’s government declared a state of emergency across six regions, as the full scale of devastation continues to unfold. Buildings have collapsed, infrastructure has crumbled, and families who were already struggling due to the ongoing conflict and displacement now face an even greater crisis.

We are deeply concerned for those affected. Act for Peace’s long-term partners in the region are on the ground right now, assessing the situation and preparing to provide urgent assistance, including food, shelter and other life-saving support.

Myanmar’s brutal, ongoing civil war makes it one of the most challenging places in the world to reach with aid. Already there are reports of the military junta carrying out airstrikes since the earthquake, despite a two-week ceasefire to respond to the emergency.

The needs are immense, and churches can make a lifesaving difference.

There are many ways church communities can help provide urgent relief to people affected by this devastating earthquake.

GIVE.
By giving today, congregations can help provide emergency assistance to our local partners on the ground, including food, shelter and other life-saving support for affected communities.

SHARE.
Act for Peace have resources available for churches including downloadable donation forms and bulletin artwork. Donation forms can be collected by churches to be sent back to us, or individuals can post them back using the Reply Paid address provided on the form.

PRAY.
Our partners have asked us to share the following prayer requests. Please join us in praying for:

  • Immediate support to reach the people who need it most.
  • Peace and hope for those who have lost their loved ones, home and property.
  • Strength for the community to work together and heal from this devastating catastrophe.
  • The safety and health of volunteers.

We know that when people come together in faith and love, lives are changed. Every prayer and every act of generosity brings hope to those affected by this crisis.

Thank you for acting for peace today.
