What are AI companions and what are the risks?
You may have seen reports lately about AI companions and their impact on young people. AI companions are chatbot apps powered by artificial intelligence and designed to simulate personal relationships. The chatbot adapts to inputs from users and learns to respond in ways that feel personal and realistic.
To help guide parents, carers, educators and sector professionals, eSafety has prepared information about AI-driven chatbots. This is the first in an ongoing series providing insights into emerging online risks.
