Interfaith Open Letter

On the 75 anniversary of the dropping of bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the NCCA has joined with leaders of faith groups and organisations across Australia in urging the Australian Government to sign and ratify the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

The Letter in support of the UN Treaty is addressed to both the Prime Minister and the leader of the Opposition and expresses concern over the increasing threat posed by nuclear weapons

"In each of our faith communities, we believe we are called to pursue peace and to love and care for all humanity and all creation." The letter states.

The UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons has now been signed by 40 states parties! The treaty will enter into force after it acquires 50 states parties.

Interfaith service for nuclear disarmament

The Uniting Church in Australia (UCA) jointly hosted an interfaith service of prayer with the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) on Thursday 6 August 2020.

The service included prayers from the Hindu Council of Australia, the Australian Baháʼí Community, the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, the Buddhist Council of NSW and the Executive Council of Australian Jewry. The service also included updates from Pacific Conference of Churches and ICAN.
