Australian Ecumenical Officers Network

At the recent meeting of the Australian Ecumenical Officers Network (AEON), State and Territory Councils/Churches Together joined with NCCA in committing to work together with our respective member churches to promote greater understanding of the Uluru Statement from the Heart and education about the forthcoming Constitutional Referendum on establishing a Voice to parliament for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Rev Sandy Boyce of Victorian Council of Churches (VCC) has created a webpage with a constantly updated compilation of resources

ABC News: What is an Indigenous Voice to parliament and the Uluru Statement from the Heart – 31 July 2022

The Conversation: Tom Calma AO on the Indigenous Voice to parliament – 3 August 2022

The AEON meeting in Adelaide brought NCCA general secretary together with executive officers/general secretaries from all States and Territories, both in person and online. AEON strives to meet once per year in person and two other times per year online. In 2022 we had our first ‘hybrid’ meeting. Many thanks to Rev Anne Hewitt of Churches Together SA for local arrangements and UCA SA Synod for providing our meeting place.

The purpose of AEON is “To share, reflect and pray together on the hopes, struggles, ideas and challenges, of ecumenical work so that, on returning to our home lands, we can have a deeper appreciation of the diverse paths on the journey towards more visible Christian unity; discover (where possible) common ground for action; delight in the "tools and tricks" that we have discovered from one another and feel connected to a deeper movement. (As agreed at 2009 meeting).
