National Child Protection Week is coming up.
This year’s overarching theme is “Where we start matters” and the message is “Every child in every community needs a fair go”.
This provides an opportunity for the National Office for Child Safety to cross promote your child protection week social media content via our own channels, if you are happy to do so.

Media Guides for Reporting on Child Sexual Abuse
- The media guides for reporting on child sexual abuse have been launched.
- The Attorney General has published a media release on the guides here.
The National Office commissioned the University of Canberra News and Media Research Centre to develop evidence based media guides to encourage responsible reporting on child sexual abuse and a companion guide for victims and survivors engaging with the media.
The key aim of these resources is to promote reporting that raises community awareness of child sexual abuse, reduces stigma, and empowers victims and survivors when they share their personal experiences with the media. The guides are accompanied by quick reference resources that provide practical guidance to editors and sub-editors, court reporters, and appropriate language and terminology to use when reporting on child sexual abuse.
We are looking forward to considering how we can further support implementation and uptake of the guides now that they have been launched.
