“The tensions and tragedies of this city—holy to Jews, Christians, and Muslims—are a reminder both of the need for all parties to continue to work intensively for a just peace in Israel and Palestine, and of the vital place that Jerusalem itself plays in that longed-for peace.” WCC acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca

“We ought to insist on the duty to guarantee human rights and the need for peace and decent living conditions for all. This is the moral value of justice and peace that we all need to commit to. Both parties would be blessed by a lasting solution, and it would be an important contribution to world peace.”  WCC acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca

EAPPI 20 year anniversary

Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI)

In 2002, the WCC  founded the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel in response to a call by church leaders in the Holy Land.

Heads of churches in Jerusalem, World Council of Churches leaders, partners, and friends gathered in Jerusalem to commemorate the 20-year anniversary of the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel.

The idea of the programme is to “promote justice, peace and reconciliation in Palestine and Israel—and in the whole world... We have only to trust this God of justice. That’s my hope to the world.”  Bishop Dr Munib Younan, former president of the Lutheran World Federation,
