WA Safe Church Changes
Western Australia has seen some recent changes in legislations and policies related to Safe Church Practices.
‘Ministers of Religion’ were added to the list of mandatory reporters on 1 November 2022.
A new Reportable Conduct Scheme commenced on 1 January 2023. This Scheme requires organisations to report any allegations of child abuse and other child-related misconduct made against their workers/volunteers to the WA Ombudsman.
Religious Institutions are added to the organisations covered by the scheme from the 1 January 2024.
A revised Safe Church Workbook for Western Australia will be available soon.
