First Nations

New Archdeacon for Reconciliation

On 30 June 2024, Uncle Glenn Loughrey was commissioned as Archdeacon for Reconciliation, First Nations Recognition and Treaty, at a Provincial Evensong in St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, Melbourne.

The Anglican Province of Victoria has commenced a new Indigenous ministry and reconciliation initiative to strengthen the participation and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the Anglican Church. The project will be led by Wiradjuri elder and Anglican priest, the Reverend Canon Glenn Loughrey.

"This project marks a significant step forward in our commitment to reconciliation and the empowerment of Indigenous leaders within our church. I encourage you to support Uncle Glenn in this important role through prayer and direct engagement." The Archbishop of Melbourne, The Most Revd Dr Philip Freier.

The NCCA congratulates Uncle Glenn and prays for his ministry in his new position as Archdeacon. May he be a guiding light as he leads this step of the journey towards reconciliation.
