Act for Peace

Crisis in Tigray, Ethiopia

Since November 2020 refugee women and girls have been fleeing the Tigray region in Northern Ethiopia were they were seeking asylum in refugee camps.

Act for Peace, along with their local partner, are aiming to reach 2,500 women and girls arriving in Addis Ababa exhausted, terrified and without the essentials they need to be safe. As they arrive, they tell harrowing stories of rape and sexual violence in the camps in Tigray.

Act for Peace have launched their Parcels of Hope campaign to help support Eritrean refugees fleeing the crisis in Tigray.

Send a Parcel of Hope

Women and girls are now in a desperate situation in Addis Ababa without the basic things they need to be safe.

Your gift will go to Act for Peace's local partner in Ethiopia who are also supporting refugees to access emergency food, health care and supporting survivors of sexual violence.

“The situation is deteriorating for women and girls who have no one to look for them and support them. They are in dire needs of the basics with some living on the streets, exposed to different problems”. Act for Peace’s local partner.

Can you take a minute to sign and share the petition calling on the Ethiopian Government to protect Eritrean refugees, displaced by the crisis, sheltering in Ethiopia?

The petition begins:

Dear Tirfu Kidanemariam Gebrehiwet, The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Commonwealth of Australia and New Zealand,

We call on the Ethiopian Government to continue its long-standing commitment to protect Eritrean refugees sheltering in Ethiopia....

We are deeply concerned about the safety and security of refugees returned to Tigray given the ongoing conflict in this region and reports of killings, abductions and a desperate shortage of basic supplies including food and medicine....

Visit the Act for Peace page PROTECT FAMILIES IN ETHIOPIA DISPLACED BY THE CRISIS IN TIGRAY , to read and sign the petition.
