In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8
We pray for the many people affected by war and unrest in Sudan, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Myanmar and Yemen.
We pray for the people of these lands, their Governments and aid workers. We think of the Coptic Church in Sudan at this time, and pray for their strength of faith in a land of disruption.
Along with the prayers for Sudan and Afghanistan below, we also pray for the citizens of Ukraine, the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Myanmar, Yemen and the many lands on earth that are experiencing devastation, violence and unrest.
Gracious God, we pray for a just peace among these nations
Hold them in your care, protect and strengthen them during these difficult time. Send your Holy Spirit upon these lands, to transform sadness and violence to joy and dancing. Amen
A PRAYER FOR SUDAN | ||
Almighty and everlasting God we pray for the people of Sudan. We pray for all those who are working towards the renewal and transformation of that country. may their faith be strengthened amidst the daily challenges of bureaucracies and systems that appear to be against transformation. |
We pray for those whose pain we read in the newspapers, for the violated, the poor, the hungry the battered wives and abused children, the homeless, the lonely and the broken hearted: give them courage to raise their voices for justice. Strengthen them as they ask for justice in all areas. We pray lasting peace in Sudan through Jesus Christ, the prince of peace. © 2015 Esther Mombo, Kenya (WCC Pilgrim Prayer) |

WHEN THERE IS PEACE "I know whenever peace come, flowers will be planted instead of mines." (12yr old Afghan student) |
||
When there is peace they will plant flowers instead of mines. And they will explode in silence, and blow us quite off our feet. Their colours will blind our eyes, their scent will sing in our nostrils cling to our clothes and linger in the air. |
Fragments will fall in petals and none shall be afraid to walk, through beauty too shall require our gentleness when there is peace. Alan Horner; in: Holy Ground: Liturgies and Worship Resources for an Engaged Spirituality. p.347. Published by Wild Goose Publications: wwwlionabooks.com
