ICAN have launched their online art auction to raise funds for their work to raise awareness and build support for the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. The auction began on 14 November and runs through to 10 December 2018. The day that exactly one year ago ICAN was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo.
The auction features 5 artworks donated by iconic print-maker Pam Debenham, John Wolseley and photographer John Rodsted. This is a rare opportunity to purchase work by these artists while supporting the push for Australia to join the treaty. By purchasing artwork, you will help to ensure the Australian Government signs and ratifies this crucial global agreement, which prohibits the use, production and stockpiling of nuclear weapons and lays the foundations for their total elimination.
On 7 July 2017, 122 nations voted to adopt the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Australia has not yet joined the Ban Treaty, despite the support of a vast majority of Australians. The Treaty is on track to become international law within the next two years; it's crucial that Australia joins the right side of history.
