40-Days of Hunger for Justice and Peace
In recognition of the escalating Human Rights abuses in West Papua we are invited to join in this act of solidarity from Wednesday 28th October to 6th December, 2020
The West Papuan Council of Churches has called upon Indonesia to enter into dialogue towards a peaceful resolution of the situation and an end to militarisation.
The World Council of Churches President for Oceania, Dr Mele'ana Puloka, has made a call for a time of fasting (choosing which meal to forego) for 40 days and prayer as we humble ourselves before our God, and intercede for West Papua.
With Pacific Council of Churches (PCC) Freedom Sunday (as per 2013 General Assembly Resolution) being set at December 6th, 2020, the PCC invites us to join in the 40-Days of Hunger for Justice and Peace.
The PCC is inviting our leaders and congregations from member churches to enter into a time of prayer and fasting for West Papua, Kanaky and Maohi Nui as well as the challenges facing the Pacific region. The PCC call for members to skip at least 1 meal a day to “hunger for justice and peace” during these 40 days.
In particular, the coming Wednesdays of the 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th of November and the 2nd of December could be set aside as fasts from sunrise to sunset as part of this time of prayer and reflection.
