Online briefing

Operation Not Forgotten (ONF) online briefing for Australian organisations and advocates.

When: Wednesday 8 November at 11am AEST

Why: to brief people who may be asked questions about ONF sponsorship through their work supporting refugees who have applied for sponsorship to Canada or might be considering their resettlement options.

Current Advocacy Actions

64 refugees in PNG are without support, 16 of which have high needs and cannot be re-settled. The petition is about transferring these to Australia. UNHCR is in discussion with New Zealand about the remaining refugees, with the majority being resettled there and 15 have applications for settlement in Canada.

Seeking a public memorial near the Park Hotel in Carlton in Inner Melbourne, as a focus for remembrance of the suffering of refugees and people seeking asylum who were imprisoned there from December 2020 to April 2022.

We believe our faith calls us to welcome the stranger and care for the people who find themselves displaced, marginalised or homeless, and those in need of protection. We want to see a compassionate and generous response to welcoming refugees into Australia.
