Reflects World Council of Churches (WCC) General Secretary, Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, in his report to the WCC Executive Committee

In his report to the WCC Executive Committee, made to the Executive Committee at a meeting in Paralimni, Cyprus, the WCC General Secretary, Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay covers the many aspects of the work of the WCC over the past several months and the travel that he has made, with the focus being to lift the profile of the WCC. He says "I believe that this is being achieved in major proportions.”
The report offers an overview of some of the activities and events undertaken in the WCC’s programme areas since the last executive committee meeting in June, including a report on the Working Group on Palestine and Israel.
Rev Pillay states that he is grateful for the many invitations come his way, with multiple requests for him to speak, preach and reflect to a broad audience, outlining the need for unity in the current times.
“... they (WCC’s programmes) communicate how the WCC continues to witness within the fellowship and beyond as we encourage transforming discipleship.”
Rev Pillay described preparations underway for the Ecumenical Year 2025, as well as highlights under the WCC’s Public Witness and Diakonia area.
“Efforts have intensified to support churches in engaging with UN human rights mechanisms...”
The report also includes a mention of his visit to Australia in late June 2024, where he addressed the 11th Forum of the National Council of Churches in Australia.
"I was greatly enthused by the ministry and witness of the NCCA and our member churches there... "
