Bear witness. Keep watch. Build Peace.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.” Matthew 5:9
This teaching can potentially transform the world - especially for those currently suffering violence and injustice.
Yet, every day, persecution and human rights abuse destroy people’s lives and fuel conflict in the Holy Land. But your presence can help prevent these injustices.
The World Council of Churches (WCC) is currently seeking human rights monitors through the Ecumenical Accompaniment Program in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI) program.
(EAPPI) was started by the World Council of Churches in 2002 to help reduce violence and persecution in the region. This humanitarian mission deploys trained, unarmed civilians called Ecumenical Accompaniers (or EAs) to act as unpaid international observers.
EAs travel to Israel and Palestine and spend three months alongside families living under military occupation, providing a protective presence for those currently at risk of experiencing harassment and other violations.
On their return home, EAs use their first-hand experience to advocate for decision-makers to comply with International Humanitarian Law and find long-term solutions to the conflict. The program is based on an internationally recognised model of non-violence called Unarmed Civilian Protection that is proven to work.
In this way, Christians and others from over 20 countries are working toward a just peace in the Holy Land, where both Palestinians and Israelis can live with freedom, dignity and security.
Act for Peace recruits and trains these dedicated individuals in Australia, who then deploy with the WCC in Jerusalem. As the current situation is particularly volatile, Act for Peace have paused deployments in 2024. However, now more than ever, peacemakers are needed. Act for Peace are seeking applications for the 2025 program to prepare for a future need. Places are limited.
You can support this program by:
- Sharing with anyone who may be interested in participating. They can find out more here.
- Remember those EAs who are deploying to the Holy Land and carry them in prayer.
- Pray for an end to the occupation, which is bringing untold pain and suffering to families in the Holy Land.
