Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10)
This is a prayerful time for our member churches as we wait for Prime Minister Scott Morrison to deliver a National Apology to the Australian Parliament on Monday 22 October 2018.
Since the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse began we have walked through a dark valley. Sometimes together but often alone. We have experienced feelings of anger, sorrow, frustration and hoplessness.
Following the release of the Recommendations from the Royal Commission, we are in a postion to bring to God our hearts for cleansing.
It is time to make restitution.
It is time to show our desire to change past behaviours, to commit to vigilance, be prepared to speak out and above all else, live up to the values of our Lord Jesus Christ.
A number of our member churches are planning liturgies of repentance to coincide with the National Apology. We are well aware that there is no prayer that can undo the hurts of the past but we do know that God's refreshing grace is available to all who ask.
We pray the prayer that the Lord taught as recorded in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4
‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
