Global Conference against Xenophobia - Human beings are equal in dignity
Messages urging love and leadership emerge from Rome as representatives at the World Conference on Xenophobia, Racism, and Populist Nationalism in the Context of Global Migration discuss the tasks of combating the world's increasing fear of "strangers".
Religious leaders and civil society representatives of different countries and diverse Christian churches gathered in Rome from 18-20 September for the conference. The conference was organized jointly by the World Council of Churches and the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development in collaboration with the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.
Migrants and refugees were also in attendance at the conference to offer a firsthand perspective on how political and social responses have either led to grave injustices or have given them hope.
The Message, released on 19 September 2018 begins;
We profess our faith in the God of Jesus Christ, and we believe that humanity is created and loved by God and that human beings are equal in dignity and are entitled to the same fundamental human rights.
