National Day of Compassion

A Day to pause and be inspired.

Join the Australian Compassion Council in Deep Dreaming: Australia A Continent for Compassion.

To support Australians in coming together with care and compassion - each year the Australian Compassion Council holds a National Day of Compassion that offers a meaningful opportunity for all Australians to participate in learning about and practicing compassion.

The National Day is always held on 21 September, which is also the International Day of Peace. This is the third year this National Day has been convened, and the theme is Compassion and Deep Wisdom.

When: 21 September 2023

Online Launch: 8.00am (AEST).

The Day will start with a launch that includes Marilyn Turkovich, CEO of the global Charter for Compassion; Australian Ambassador, Hugh MacKay on the Deep Wisdom of Community; Tania Rossi, the great grand-daughter of Aunty Marg Tucker who in 1932 establish one of the country's first Aboriginal organisations, the Victorian Aborigines League - Tania will reflect on Indigenous wisdom. Members of the Australian Compassion Council will also provide an outline of the inspiring events occurring throughout the rest of the Day.

Register for the launch event session 8:00 am to 9:00 am

Day sessions: from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm

Sessions are held throughout the day, with the final session at 6pm to ‘drop-in’ and reflect on what you will take away from the 2023 National Day of Compassion.

Commencing at 9.00am and finishing at 6.30pm, you are invited to attend as many those sessions of your choice. The sessions feature foremost international and Australian thinkers reflecting on a wide array of aspects of deep wisdom including as it applies to compassionate social infrastructure in our cities; to the strategic work of corporate boards; to the Indigenous insight into interdependence; to the Buddhist path to wisdom; to how it’s expressed across all age groups; in spiritual leadership in times of crisis; on how wisdom can guide political decision-making; in peaceful transformational change in society; and in creative and futurist thinking in the vital area of education. You can join these free online sessions to discuss the presentations (some live & some recorded) and contribute your own reflections on these thought-provoking issues.

Register for the National Day Sessions – 9:00 am – 6:30 pm
