Child Safe Sunday 2023 - Prayer
Sunday 3 September 2023
The Uniting Church in Australia invites its members and friends to mark Sunday 3 September as Child Safe Sunday to reflect on the call to be a community of Christ, a community which is safe for all people.
Uniting Church Assembly President, Rev Sharon Hollis, has shared this prayer for communities to share on the day or over the coming weeks. The prayer invites us to reflect on how we care for children in our faith communities, our neighbourhood and our wider world.
This Sunday, the Uniting Church will mark Child Safe Sunday - an invitation to reflect on our call to be a community of Christ .

This provides an opportunity for the National Office for Child Safety to cross promote your child protection week social media content via our own channels, if you are happy to do so.

Media Guides for Reporting on Child Sexual Abuse
- The media guides for reporting on child sexual abuse have been launched.
- The Attorney General has published a media release on the guides here.
The National Office commissioned the University of Canberra News and Media Research Centre to develop evidence based media guides to encourage responsible reporting on child sexual abuse and a companion guide for victims and survivors engaging with the media.
The key aim of these resources is to promote reporting that raises community awareness of child sexual abuse, reduces stigma, and empowers victims and survivors when they share their personal experiences with the media. The guides are accompanied by quick reference resources that provide practical guidance to editors and sub-editors, court reporters, and appropriate language and terminology to use when reporting on child sexual abuse.
We are looking forward to considering how we can further support implementation and uptake of the guides now that they have been launched.
