National Child Protection Week

Peak Body SNAICC calls on Federal Government to keep children safe.

Statistics prove that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are "10.5 times more likely to be in out-of-home care than non-Indigenous children,” Catherine Liddle, CEO of SNAICC.

From the MEDIA RELEASE

SNAICC, the National Voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children, calls on both the Federal Government and the out-of-home care (OOHC) sector to "take substantial action to keep children safe and turn around the rising tide of family separations."

The Media release cites that "Current trends indicate that the National Agreement on Closing the Gap’s Target 12 (to reduce the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care by 45% by 2031) will not be met."

It concludes, "...we need more investment in prevention and early support services that will help to reduce child removals."

1-7 September 2024

This year’s theme is ‘Every conversation matters' and the message is “Every child in every community needs a fair go”.

Conversations are powerful tools to keep children and young people safe and well.

Conversations can help us understand issues, craft solutions, value community knowledge, and build the brains and social connections of children and young people.
