Briefing notes produced by the Australian Churches Refugee Taskforce (ACRT) aim to address the misinformation and confusion being peddled by sections of the media and politicians about the Australian Government’s official processes for refugees and people seeking asylum in Australia and those in offshore detention. The Taskforce also calls for medical transfer legislation to remain as it is saving lives.
Moral Discernment in the Churches - NCCA Assembly
Participants at the NCCA member Assembly on Thursday 31 October welcomed the opportunity to reflect on how our churches engage in moral discernment. In particular, when they make decisions about moral matters that are part of public discussion.
The highly successful meeting was facilitated by the NCCA Faith and Unity Commission led by Rev Dr Gerard Kelly from the Catholic Church and Rev Dr Morag Logan from the Uniting Church in Australia.

The suspension of COP 25 in Chile: Climate Change and a Just transition
On 30 October, after two weeks of mass demonstrations, the Chilean government cancelled the twenty-fifth Conference of the Parties (COP25) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. COP 25 was scheduled for December in Santiago, Chile.
On 31 October, Henrik Grape of the World Council of Churches WCC released a blog regarding the suspension of COP 25. He states, "A narrative that could serve as a vehicle to meet the climate emergency we are facing must have a just transition as a core value."
