Poverty exists. Poverty hurts us all. We can all do something about it.

Anti-Poverty Week supports the Australian community to have an increased understanding of poverty and to take action to collectively end it.

Inquiry into the status of the human right to freedom of religion or belief.

Bishop Philip Huggins, on behalf of the NCCA, recently submitted a paper to The Hon Philip Ruddock, Chair of the Parliamentary Inquiry into the status of the human right to freedom of religion or belief. 

We are pleased to welcome Liz Stone to the NCCA office in the role of Associate General Secretary. She has taken up this role on a part time basis, working in our Sydney office.

Laura Cregan, the new National Coordinator, Safe Church Program for NCCA, will present on implications from the final report of the Royal Commission.

In the recent Australia Day honours many people were recognised for their contribution to religious organisations and services. The NCCA congratulates all of them, with special mention to three who have been recognised for their contribution to child protection, interfaith relations and reconciliation:

Love of the bush is normal for Australians.
The Columban Misson Society has released a free online resource for Lent. It follows the scriptural readings for Liturgical Year B and covers the six Sundays in Lent. The resource invites believers to meditate on the variety of trees present in our bush as a way of returning to God with all our mind heart.

Celebrating 70 years of the WCC 

Walking together, serving justice and peace

This year The World Council of Churches (WCC) celebrates their 70th anniversary.
After the varied the achievements of the past 70 years  they now look to the challenges ahead as a fellowship of churches responding to God’s call for unity, mission, justice and peace.

The WCC also recently combined their celebrations with the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
