Celebrating the Journey Together
Tribute to Geraldine Hawkes on 13 years of ecumenical inspiration.
On Thursday 31 January, South Australian church leaders, church members and pastoral workers, State politicians and local Councillors, plus we interstate friends, came together in Adelaide at St Francis Xavier Cathedral Hall to pay tribute to the generosity and thoughtful leadership of Geraldine Hawkes, Ecumenical Facilitator of the South Australian Council of Churches and Executive Secretary for Leaders of Christian Churches South Australia.
In the recent Australia Day honours many people were recognised for their contribution to religious organisations and services. The NCCA congratulates all of them, with special mention to four Victorians who have been recognised for their contribution to ecumenical relations, theological studies and their churches:

Pakistan Supreme Court upholds acquittal
Asia Bibi is now free to leave Pakistan after the acquittal of Islamist blasphemy charges. Ms Bibi, a Christian, has spent eight years in prison convicted of a blasphemy crime which is punishable by death in the Islamic Republic.

Archbishop Ian George
Former Anglican Archbishop of Adelaide Dr Ian George has passed away, aged 84 on January 28 2019.
Bishop George was Archbishop of Adelaide between 1991 and 2004. During this time he served as Chair of NCCA's Christian World Service (CWS) Commission from 1996 to 2004.
